LG's Optimus Pad is now 3D

Tuesday February 15, 2011

LG’s Optimus Pad has 8.9-inch 10 x 768 tablet working with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. This tablet is packed with a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. The dual-core shows and we were able to zip round the interface at speed.

Android 3.0 is really superb and a real achievement by Google. It tries to be showy in a few areas where something clear and simple would do. It seems quite solid in the hand. The micro USB port is also joined by a mini HDMI – the ports seems so better than the bottom of the Motorola Xoom, which is a mess.

The only physical control is the volume up/down switch. It feels a little artificial at first for those who used the iPad, but it soon gets more natural.

Incidentally, there’s also a 2MP camera on the top corner of the unit for video calling – Android 3.0 includes Google Talk as standard. There’s also full tabbed web browsing, while the on screen keyboard is quick, responsive and a joy to type for a short time on.

The screen orientates really rather quickly when you turn the tablet 90 degrees. There’s 1080p Full HD playback, while one of the cameras can record 720p – the 3D recording is not HD. There’s also 3G and Wi-Fi, as well as 32GB of storage. Here are some more pics of the device (and Android 3.0) in action.
